How video links work

A link is an address. It names a host, a path, and sometimes a query. It is not the video file itself. The file, if one is offered later, would be a separate response from a service that is allowed to provide it.

Short links

Hosts such as youtu.be, vm.tiktok.com, and fb.watch answer with a redirect to a longer address. Both forms can be valid URLs. Vid Grabber does not follow redirects while processing is off.

Parameters

Text after a question mark can mark a start time, a playlist, or a tracking code. Stripping it by hand can break the address. Paste what the app copied.

What this site will not treat as a video

• A profile, channel, or page with no single video selected.
• A search results page.
• Plain text that has no host name.
